SLIM, TACTILE, and ELEGANT
These are all good descriptors for the SlimFire™ 2-Unit Remote (KR19A) keychain device. It’s only 1.25” by 2.25” and a thin 5/16” so you can easily carry it in your pocket. The 6 slightly raised function buttons are easy to feel and operate in total darkness. The small recessed red LED at the top of the unit gives you clear visual confirmation that your command has been sent.
The SlimFire is perfect for turning on or off your front porch and hallway lights as you enter or leave your home or leave it in your car and turn on back entry lights as you pull into the garage and enter your home’s back door.
Interpreting the Signals
The SlimFire sends out Radio Frequency (RF) signals to a distance of more than 30 feet. Therefore, you need an X10 enabled transceiver like the Mini Transceiver (TM751) or the V572 RF Receiver to route the signal into the power line of your home where it can find its way directly to the lamp or light to be controlled. The W800RF32A Transceiver, of course, will get the X10 signal directly into your computer (and Indigo). You will probably opt for your home automation software like Indigo to take the remote’s transmitted X10 command and generate a sequence of events controlling multiple X10 and INSTEON devices.
Easy to Set Up
The SlimFire Remote comes with the CR2025 Lithium 3V battery already installed and the top row of On/Off buttons set to house code A1 and the other On/Off buttons set to A2. So, you are immediately ready to go if these are the codes of the devices you wish to control and you don’t want to involve your home automation software. To brighten or dim, press the number button first, then press the Bright or Dim button which are the two blue arrowed buttons at the bottom of the SlimFire Remote.
You can also easily change the house codes to fit your specific needs. Just hold down the (top) ON button for 3 seconds. After the LED light flashes, press and release the (top) ON button the appropriate number of times for the house code you want to set (once for A, twice for B, etc). The LED blinks for each press. If you want to change the default unit code of 1 then you press and hold the (top) OFF button for 3 seconds. The red LED blinks back the current code. Press and release the top OFF button the appropriate number of times for the Unit Code you want (2 times for 2 up to 16 times for 16). The bottom button (lower) will automatically become 1 unit code higher than the top.
