The SignaLinc Coupler Repeater is the world's first plug-in signal coupler-repeater designed to increase the reliability of your X10 system by simply plugging into an existing dryer outlet. There is no need to hire an electrician to hardwire a signal bridge or install a capacitor inside the breaker box. The answer is just to plug in the SignaLinc Coupler Repeater in that 220V plug behind your dryer and then plug your dryer into the feed through outlet on the face of the SignaLinc Coupler Repeater.
Home Wiring 101
Most homes today have 2-phase 220V power that splits into two separate 110V legs. Sometimes X10 signals have a hard time making the transition from one leg to the other. You may wonder why the overhead light in a room responds just fine to your X10 commands but the table lamp in the same room ignores your commands more often than it accepts them. Based on proximity, you might think the two items are on the same 110V leg, but they probably aren’t if you are encountering this kind of erratic behavior. But, if you simply plug a SignaLinc Coupler-Repeater into your home's 220V electric dryer receptacles, it will detect and amplify X10 signals between the two power line legs in your home.
Bridges and Amplifies
The SignaLinc Coupler Repeater not only bridges but it also actively amplifies or re-generates the X10 signals. Your X10 modules will get a stronger signal than what they would have received directly from the originating transmitter (like the Indigohome automation software) via the non-amplified signal bridge approach. Homes with large installation of X10 products will see an immediate improvement in response. No longer will you have a module stay on all night because the OFF signal was too weak to trigger the module.
Diagnostic Indicators
You probably won’t care because everything will be responding just fine now, but the SignaLinc Coupler Repeater does include four indicator LEDs on the front of the unit. These indicators show the status of SignaLinc's processing of the powerline signal. The red and green pairs monitor each phase separately and illuminate when X10 signals are detected and re-transmitted.

The SignaLinc Coupler Repeater only comes in a 4-prong version. Be sure to look at your dryer plug before ordering. (NOTE: The 3-prong SignaLinc Coupler Repeater model has been discontinued by the manufacturer. However, the SignaLinc Coupler 3-Prong model is still available. Sorry, it doesn't have the "repeater/amplify" functionality.)
