Hardwired Phase Coupler for installation near your breaker box
Are lights or appliances in one area of your house having trouble receiving signals from INSTEON or X10 transmitters in another area of the house? Most homes have 2-phase 220V power that splits into two separate 110V legs. That means X10 and INSTEON automation commands can have a hard time making the transition from one leg to the other. However, the hardwired INSTEON SignaLinc Phase Coupler installed next to your home's breaker box will bridge INSTEON and X10 signals between the two power lines in your home, allowing virtually all of your automation receivers to respond to X10 and INSTEON signals.
The Hardwired INSTEON SignaLinc Phase Coupler is a passive coupler and does not amplify the signal. This means the signal coupled onto the receiving phase will be no stronger than the original signal on the transmitting phase from Indigo and the INSTEON PowerLinc V2 Controller 2414U or INSTEON PowerLinc Modem 2413U combo or any one of your other control modules that transmits power line based X10 or INSTEON signals. How well the SignaLinc works in your home is dependent on many factors, including signal strength for the transmission phase. Remember that the INSTEON AccessPoints, which are specifically INSTEON phase couplers have to be installed if you utilize any INSTEON RF devices like the INSTEON RemoteLinc or the INSTEON Thermostat Adapter.
Can I Install it Myself?
If you've ever replaced a broken circuit breaker, then you probably have the experience to install a phase coupler. You will need two dedicated 15-amp circuit breakers (available at a home improvement center). If you have more than one electrical panel, the SignaLinc Phase Coupler should be installed at the panel closest to the point where electricity enters the home. If you choose to have an electrician install it, it should be no more than an hour's job to mount and wire it.
Unlike many other hardwired solutions that require a neutral connection, the Hardwired INSTEON SignaLinc Phase Coupler offers easy two-wire connection (plus the ground wire). That makes it ideal for older homes that may have a limited number of openings on the neutral bus bar.
